Dr. Alberto Gobbi‘s Profile

World-renowned Orthopedic Surgeon with over 35 years of experience, Dr. Gobbi graduated in 1983 and completed his specialization in Orthopedics in 1988 at the University of Milan and in Sports Medicine in Genoa in 1992.

To date he divides his time between practice (in Italy and the United States), research and scientific dissemination activities.

CERTIFICATES:

Sports Medicine

He was a national athlete himself and was part of the Italian Olympic Committee for the world championship of motocross, African rallies, offshore regattas, downhill skiing, volleyball and basketball. He was named “Azzurro di Italia” in 1998.

His participation in high-risk sports led him to focus on trauma, surgical techniques and rehabilitation, becoming a reference point for many international athletes.

Pioneer in Biotechnology

Dr. Gobbi was one of the pioneers of research on biological therapies for the treatment of trauma in the orthopedic field, establishing himself internationally in the field of regenerative medicine and in the development of new surgical techniques that involve the use of mesenchymal cells and growth factors.

Collaborations

For over 20 years, he has been collaborating with major research centers in Europe, Japan and the United States in the experimentation of new biotherapy in the orthopedic field.

In addition, in 2011 he was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Kobe and Osaka in Japan and in 2014 at the University of California, San Diego.

Additionally, Dr. Gobbi recently received ad eundem recognition from the UK’s Royal College of Surgeons.

Positions Held

He was the first Italian to hold the prestigious position of President of the International Cartilage Regeneration & Joint Preservation Society (ICRS).

He is also a member of the Executive Board of the International Society of Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery (ISAKOS), and a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and of the European Surgery Knee Arthroscopy (ESSKA).

“In 1994 I underwent an operation due to the rupture of my right knee meniscus and cartilage problems. Subsequently, until 2009, I used homeopathic infiltrations and oral homeopathic therapy. In 2009 I underwent a valgus osteotomy with autogenous mesenchymal cell transplantation, which had an excellent result after a long rehabilitation. The following year, the same type of surgery was also performed on the right knee which, despite being very shabby, had a fantastic result. After these operations, I no longer had any problems. However, I continued to treat both knees orally with homeopathic products and with mesotherapy. In addition, in the last 5 years I have performed a cycle every year of PRP. In 2017, as a prevention, I made an intervention on my knees with my choice and request with mesenchymal cells taken from abdominal fat. Currently, I am able to perform various physical activities without problems (swimming, underwater hunting, cycling, dancing), limited only by the fact that I am now 70 years old and weigh 112 kg. I have always had excellent assistance, competence and availability from the OASI center directed by Dr. Alberto Gobbi with indications and advice for physiotherapy after the operations. I would do again everything I have done because I was given 10 more years of absolute mobility.”
