History of OASI Bioresearch Foundation ONLUS

We have been sharing knowledge on biotechnology for over 20 years
THE IDEAPRINCIPLES
OASI Bioresearch Foundation ONLUS was born in 2007 from the motivation of Dr. Gobbi to train young foreign doctors on biotechnologies in the orthopedic field.

In over 20 years of work, over 100 doctors from 32 countries around the world have studied and worked in Milan, taking advantage of the scholarships made available to them and then return to their countries of origin to apply and share what they learned in Italy.

The thought

The idea of creating a research foundation was born in the late eighties, when dr. Alberto Gobbi participated as a volunteer in some humanitarian projects in Africa and Paraguay.

Soon the young Gobbi realized that the help provided was inadequate with respect to the suffering and needs of those populations and that it was necessary to find much more incisive and far-sighted forms of communication and transmission of knowledge, capable of promoting the autonomy of health workers. locals.

It was then that Dr. Gobbi decided to share with these young foreigners the professionalism, the research methods and the use of innovative technologies in the orthopedic field, which in turn he had learned in Italy and during long periods of stay in the United States.

This is how the OASI international scholarship program originated thanks to the friendship with Dr. Brumat of the AISPO Foundation and the meeting with Don Luigi Verzè of the San Raffaele Hospital who encouraged the initiative.

Some friends and patients funded the first scholarships and the program gradually consolidated over the years.

More than twenty years have passed, many young doctors have studied and worked in Milan, taking advantage of the scholarships made available to them and then return to their countries of origin to apply and share what they learned in Italy.

“My name is Radoslaw Grabowski, I am an orthopedic surgeon from Lodz, Poland. I am very interested in arthroscopic surgery, cartilage restoration techniques and the treatment of sports injuries. In 2017 I was a fellow at the OASI Bioresearch Foundation. thank Dr. Alberto Gobbi and all the members of the Foundation for giving me this opportunity. It was a pleasure to work with the team and learn from Dr. Gobbi. For me it was a stimulating experience that focused on scientific work and treatment Thanks to this scholarship I started a close collaboration with both Dr. Gobbi and the OASI Bioresearch Foundation, but also with the various fellows of the past. I learned a lot about Bio-orthopedics, I started new scientific projects and I hope that my stay at the Foundation was only the beginning of a lasting cooperation. “

The Inspiratory Principles

The OASI Bioresearch Foundation Gobbi Onlus was created with the aim of training young doctors from emerging countries in full respect of the patient and love for life.

The Foundation was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Augusto Gobbi, father of Alberto, specialist in hematology, preventive and occupational medicine and researcher at the University of Milan.

Born in Milan on 15 July 1923 and died in 2002 due to a serious illness, dr. Augusto Gobbi dedicated his entire life to the care of his patients and conducted important studies aimed at improving the working environment and preventing occupational diseases.

Growing up seeing his father examine the slides with the blood samples of subjects with blood diseases under the microscope, Alberto has always thought that understanding the processes that lead to joint aging could represent the key to improving the quality of life. significantly reducing the social costs associated with the care of people suffering from degenerative diseases.

The constant presence in the world of sport and the close contact with athletes, with fantastic recoveries and “miraculous” healings, obtained using bio-orthopedics has prompted dr. Gobbi to devote all his energies to the study of tissue regeneration through the use of growth factors and mesenchymal-stem cells.

The goal is to create an international network of researchers and doctors who continue the work done so far.

The hope is that, in the near future, biological therapies can be successfully used in the treatment of many other pathologies including traumatic, spinal cord and degenerative injuries.
